How do cats drink water?

The speed at which cats drink water is so fast that it is impossible for the human eye to see what is happening. This is why the trick has apparently been lost in the shuffle. The neatness of this feline solution was captured using high-speed photography.

Drinking may not seem that big a deal to anyone who can close their mouth and create suction as well as humans. However, there are many species that can’t do this and most adult carnivores have to resort to another method.

Dog owners know the strange lapping sounds that can occur when their pet drinks from a cup of water. The dog is putting its tongue in the water and then transferring the liquid to the muzzle.

According to new research cats are classier than their smaller counterparts.

Cat’s lapping technique is based on the cat’s instinctive ability calculate the point at gravity would overcome inertia, causing the water to drop.

The cat will then wiggle its tongue downwards so that the tip touches the water surface lightly.
